Lawn moss clearance and organic moss control

Together Green Gardening Services clears moss and treats its cause, organically, across Halesowen, Romsley, Clent, Hagley and Belbroughton. Shade, compaction, poor drainage and heavy clay all encourage moss, so we scarify, aerate and overseed rather than reach for a chemical moss killer. Work is timed for spring or autumn and safe around children and pets. Get in touch to talk it through.

Moss Clearance & Control the Together Green Gardening way

Moss in a lawn is rarely the actual problem, it is a sign that something underneath is not right for grass to thrive, whether that is shade from a hedge or fence, soil compacted by years of foot traffic, heavy clay that holds water, or grass that has been cut too short too often. Clearing the moss without addressing the cause just buys a few months before it comes back.

We start by lifting the moss out with proper scarifying, which also pulls out the dead thatch that builds up under a lawn and stops air and water reaching the roots. Where the soil is compacted, hollow-tine aeration relieves that compaction so water can drain and roots can spread. Bare patches left behind are overseeded, and a natural feed helps the grass grow strong enough to compete with moss on its own.

We never use chemical moss killers. The whole process is organic and chemical-free, so children, pets and the wildlife that uses the garden are never at risk, and the results tend to hold because the lawn itself is healthier, not just temporarily clear of moss.

What we offer

What is included in moss control

  • Chemical-free moss removal

Moss lifted out of the lawn surface using proper scarifying tools, without any chemical moss killer.

  • Scarifying

Moss and built-up thatch raked out to let air, water and nutrients reach the soil and roots again.

  • Hollow-tine aeration

Compacted soil relieved with hollow-tine aeration, tackling the poor drainage that lets moss keep coming back.

  • Overseeding

Bare or thin patches left after clearance reseeded, so grass fills the space moss would otherwise return to.

  • Natural feeds

An organic feed to help the grass grow strong enough to out-compete moss over a season, rather than a quick chemical fix.

  • Ongoing moss control

Moss management folded into a regular lawn care visit, so it is kept under control rather than tackled once and forgotten.

How it works

From first call to a tidy garden

  1. 1

    Get in touch

Call, email or use the form with a few details about the lawn and where you are. Glen replies as soon as he is off the tools.

  2. 2

    A look at the cause

We look at shade, drainage, compaction and how the lawn has been cut, then give a clear quote for what the lawn actually needs.

  3. 3

    Scarify, aerate, overseed

The moss and thatch are raked out, compacted ground aerated where needed, and bare patches overseeded, timed for spring or autumn.

  4. 4

    Advice and invoice

Honest advice on keeping moss from returning, then a proper invoice follows, paid by bank transfer, cheque or cash.

Why choose Together Green Gardening

  • We treat the cause, not just the moss

Shade, compaction and drainage are looked at properly, so the improvement lasts rather than needing repeating every few months.

  • No chemical moss killers

Every treatment is organic and chemical-free, so the lawn is safe for children and pets as soon as the work is done.

  • Timed for the season

Scarifying, aeration and overseeding are carried out in spring or autumn when moss is actively growing and grass recovers fastest.

  • A local round, not a call centre

Glen lives in Hayley Green and works Halesowen and the surrounding areas, so the person who looks at your lawn is the person doing the work.

  • Covered and registered

Public liability insurance in place, certificate available on request, and a registered waste carrier for any moss or thatch we take away.

Where we work

Moss Control across Halesowen and the surrounding areas

We keep the round small on purpose, so every visit is on time and the same person turns up.

Moss control in Clent and Holy Cross

Clent's cottage gardens sit on sloping ground below the hills, often shaded by mature trees, and the heavier clay found on these slopes holds water long after rain. That combination of shade and wet clay is exactly where moss establishes fastest, and scarifying plus aeration make the biggest difference here.

Gardener in Clent

Moss control in Hagley and West Hagley

Family lawns around Hagley take heavy daily use from children, dogs and garden furniture, which compacts the soil over a season and gives moss an opening. Aeration relieves that compaction, and overseeding thickens the grass back up where it has thinned.

Moss control in Belbroughton and Fairfield

Larger cottage and farmhouse gardens around Belbroughton often have lawns bordered by hedgerows or sitting near the brook, where damp ground and shade both encourage moss. We scarify and aerate the mown areas while leaving any wildlife margins as they are.

Gardener in Belbroughton

Moss control in Romsley and Hunnington

The exposed, hilly plots around Romsley and Hunnington sit wet through the winter months, a common cause of moss on this side of the hills. Aeration through the wetter months and overseeding in spring help these lawns recover.

Moss control in Hayley Green, Hasbury and Lutley

Glen is based in Hayley Green, and the interwar semis and post-war estates here often have smaller lawns shaded by fences or garden hedges where moss quietly takes hold. Organic moss control is one of the most requested lawn jobs on this side of Halesowen.
